What is massage therapy? Massage is the working of superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue using various techniques, to enhance function, aid in the healing process, and promote relaxation and well-being. What should I expect before my massage appointment? Please be advised to arrive 15 minutes before each visit. Upon arrival, you will be greeted and given an intake form for us to obtain. This is to review your health history and assess if you have any contraindications that will require your physicians consent. After viewing your history, we welcome you to give any additional information we may need to assure all of your needs are directed accordingly. We are here to help you as far as our scope of practice and expertise allow, and applaud your enthusiasm to explore Massage Therapy as an alternative or conjunction with your health care provider. What should I expect during my massage? Your therapist will leave the room momentarily, at this time you will undress, lay on the table and cover yourself – UNDER – the sheets. You therapist will knock before reentry. With only the appointed area unveiled, rest assured you will be completely covered at all times and know your modesty is paramount during your session. Location, duration, level of pain, range of motion and severity of the injury, these determine the amount of care given each individual session. The next step is what we call "The Therapist Introduction." Muscles are composed to mobilize the skeletal structure and to protect the bodies vital organs. As a natural defense to pain or discomfort, your muscles will contract. Between the client and therapist, it is imperative to create trust with communication. Your therapist will gradually increase pressure with verbal consent, and then apply their expertise to determine if the amount of pressure given is sufficient. Overtime, your muscles will learn to trust and subdue to touch. This process makes each session more efficient, and minimizes visits. Epsom salt baths are advised for aches and pains you may endure after each visit. What should I expect after my massage? There are many factors to consider. If you receive frequent massages, exercise, stretch, drink plenty of water and have a well balanced diet, chances are you will feel great immediately after your session, usually relaxed or energized. If you happen to fall into the category of the current lifestyle which is continuously hectic, and missing one or more of the list above then please read on. Your body naturally flushes toxins through the lymphatic system everyday. Massage Therapy simply inspires the same ideology but at an accelerated rate. By the end of your session, you may experience one or more of the following detox symptoms; Stuffy or runny nose, vertigo, headache, emotional, sudden urge to urinate, nausea, dull aches throughout your body or flu like symptoms. Usually these symptoms are mild but depending on your overall health, symptoms may vary. * Please feel free to email or call during normal business hours for any questions or concerns. Since 2009 our goal has been to build a reputation within the healthcare community. As Massage Therapists, it is our choice as to how far we continue to learn. Here at Orthossage, it is not a choice, but mandatory. Only because here, we believe that education and learning are endless. We then bring our knowledge and skills to you. Western medicine and holistic health create a balance. We encourage you, as our patients, to practice both. We provide additional 3D anatomy photos for our clients to have a visual understanding of particular muscles, muscle groups and attachments we have covered in our session. Massage Therapists are not one to treat, but to enhance your outcome. Massage Therapy is a team effort between you as the client and the therapist. Massage Therapy has only recently been recognized as an alternative prescription when deemed medically necessary. We are pleased to announce that most insurance is now welcomed.
